Poem of the Month

Thirty-One

We went to the palace

one night; upstairs the girl

serving drinks looked like

Shirley MacLaine. I told her

so. A black guy. in the

men's room sold cologne

and toothpaste; his name

was Jeff. We shook hands

and checked eyes; Shirley

MacLaine's real name was

amber. I got her number

before I left.
